Foster Program
Provide A Foster Home
Thank you so much for your interest in providing a home to a rescue animal. We encourage you to review our list of animals available for adoption and sponsorship to see if any stand out as a good fit for you to foster. Occasionally, we also face emergency situations or new rescue arrivals where we urgently need foster homes, so flexibility is greatly appreciated.
I Want To Become A Foster Parent. What Do I Need To Do?
Becoming a foster parent is a wonderful way to make a direct impact on the animals in our care. To ensure our rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we follow a thorough application process.
Please begin by submitting a foster application. You’ll our online application button below.
We are looking for foster families to help:
- Pigs – We receive a high volume of pig surrender requests, often more than we have space for. Many of these pigs need help learning to trust and socialize. Some come from indoor homes and need support adjusting to a barn or outdoor setting.
- Equines – Many need consistent handling, and gentle training to feel secure and ready for a permanent home.
- Goats & Small Animals – These animals may have been waiting a long time for a forever home and need space to roam and help with socialization.
- Pregnant & Orphaned – Pregnant mothers need a peaceful space to give birth and nurse. Orphaned babies, like piglets and foals, require round-the-clock care and bottle-feeding.
- Medical Needs – Many animals come to us with medical needs that require more individualized attention than a rescue can provide.
Fostering means to…
- Provide a safe, stable environment for rescued farm animals to heal, grow, and regain trust.
- Create space in the rescue for other animals needing shelter and care.
- Support animals as they transition from difficult pasts, helping them adjust to new environments and social settings.
- Help with daily needs, including feeding, grooming, and basic medical care.
- Offer gentle handling and interaction to build social skills and prepare them for their forever homes.
- Ensure secure fencing and safe spaces to protect them from injury or stress.
- Provide specialized care, like administering medication or post-surgery support, when needed.
- Offer affection and companionship without a lifetime commitment.
Requirements to foster
Our mission at Rooted In Love Rescue is to provide every animal with a loving, respectful, and supportive home. To help us achieve this, we ask that potential foster homes to meet the following criteria:
- Secure and Spacious Habitat: Foster homes must provide a secure, fenced yard or pasture with adequate room for the animal to roam comfortably. Each animal should have species-appropriate shelter to stay safe and comfortable year-round.
- Experienced Farm Veterinary Care: All foster homes should have access to a farm veterinarian experienced with the species they plan to foster. We require this to ensure each animal’s health and well-being in their new home.
- Preparedness and Knowledge: We look for foster homes who are knowledgeable about the animal they’re planning to foster, either through research or experience. We offer resources and support to help with responsible care practices.
- Respectful fostering: Rooted In Love Rescue fosters animals with the intent that they live peaceful, purposeful lives as companions or members of the farm till they find their homes. They are not to be used for slaughter, breeding, or any commercial purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What expenses will I be responsible for as a foster parent?
We cover their veterinary care and farrier care as needed. Our fosters provide food, and the minimal basic supplies in most cases with assistance from us via donations we may receive in for them. Any additional contributions you are willing to make, such as transportation or special treats, are always appreciated but not required.
How long will I be fostering an animal?
The length of a foster placement varies depending on the animal and their circumstances. Some may need care for a few weeks, while others may require months. We’ll work with you to determine a timeframe that fits your availability. You as the foster will always be able to choose at any point in your foster journey with them to be their forever home too if you were to decide to do that!
RILR aims to place rescued animals in safe, approved homes whenever it is medically and physically safe to do so. However, if an animal at risk cannot be safely rehomed, they will reside in our sanctuary building and pastures.
