How To Adopt

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting one of our animals. Browse our adoptable animals online to find your potential match. Each animal’s profile gives you a glimpse into their personality and needs.

Step .1

To ensure our animals are placed in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we follow a structured application process. Currently, all adoptions are conducted by appointment only.

Please begin by submitting an adoption application. You’ll find our online application button below.

Step .2

After your application is received, you will receive a response from us.  This should occur within 48-72 hours. We’ll schedule a meet-and-greet (if you’re local) to ensure the animal is a good fit for your farm and lifestyle. During this visit, we’ll review the animal’s medical history and personality with you.

Once your application has been approved and you’ve been instructed to do so by us, you may return here to conveniently online.

Transport Options

If you need transportation within Michigan, we recommend our trusted partner, , for safe and reliable animal transport within the state. They understand the unique needs of farm animals and have extensive experience.

Out of state adoptions: Rooted In Love Rescue welcomes adopters from beyond Michigan. Out-of-state adopters will need to arrange their own transportation. We’re happy to discuss any specific needs to ensure a smooth journey home for your new animal.

Requirements for Adopting

Our mission at Rooted In Love Rescue is to provide every animal with a loving, respectful, and supportive home. To help us achieve this, we ask that potential adopters meet the following criteria:

  • Secure and Spacious Habitat: Adopters must provide a secure, fenced yard or pasture with adequate room for the animal to roam comfortably. Each animal should have species-appropriate shelter to stay safe and comfortable year-round.
  • Experienced Farm Veterinary Care: All adopters should have access to a farm veterinarian experienced with the species they plan to adopt. We require this to ensure each animal’s health and well-being in their new home.
  • Preparedness and Knowledge: We look for adopters who are knowledgeable about the animal they’re adopting, either through research or experience. We offer resources and support to help with responsible care practices.
  • Respectful Adoption: Rooted In Love Rescue adopts out animals with the intent that they live peaceful, purposeful lives as companions or members of the homestead. They are not to be used for slaughter, breeding, or any commercial purposes.

Why We Have Adoption Fees?

As a nonprofit, Rooted In Love Rescue relies on adoption fees and donations to provide each animal with essential care, from veterinary services to nutrition and safe shelter. These fees are vital to supporting our mission, allowing us to rescue, rehabilitate, and give these animals a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

How Are Adoption Fees Determined?

Adoption fees are based on the individual needs of each animal, including their species, medical requirements, and any training or socialization provided. Larger animals or those needing specialized care may have higher fees to help cover these costs, supporting the care they received while with us.

What’s included in the adoption fee?

At Rooted In Love Rescue, our adoption fees help cover the thorough care each animal receives before joining their new home. We provide essential health and wellness services to ensure they are ready for a successful transition, including:

  • Health Check: Each animal undergoes a comprehensive health examination by a farm veterinarian experienced with their specific species.
  • Vaccinations: All recommended vaccines are provided based on the animal’s species and individual needs. This may include equine vaccinations, boosters, and other farm animal-specific immunizations to promote long-term health.
  • Deworming and Parasite Control: Each animal receives species-appropriate deworming and parasite treatments to support a healthy immune system.
  • Nutritional Assessment: We evaluate and provide tailored nutritional support for animals who need specific feeding plans due to prior health or dietary concerns.
  • Behavioral and Social Assessment: We observe each animal’s behavior and interactions to understand their temperament and recommend the best type of home environment.
  • Special Care Needs: For animals needing additional care (e.g., dental work for equines, hoof trimming for goats or minis), we ensure they receive it before adoption.

These services ensure each animal is well-prepared to settle into a new, loving environment. Your adoption fee makes this level of care possible, allowing us to continue rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need. Thank you for helping us give them a fresh start!
